Hainault & Clayhall XI

Saturday, 26th April 2003 - Friendly

A season's opener was played in distinctly chilly conditions.  Promisingly solid debuts from Ian Johns and a young man called Cox.  Mark Askew (42) and Paddy Mills (90) provided the major innings in a total of 227.  This was always going to be too much for Hainault 2s, who were made to hop around a bit by Ben Wakeford (3 wkts) and Mills.  R Tombs twirled away for three wickets from his ten overs, while Churchy chipped in with two scalps.  After amazing catches from Guy Nicholson (gully), P Mills (slip/short extra), M Askew (slip), and B Wakeford (mid-off), it was a bit of a disappointment to drop a few at the end.  This probably cost us the win, but all-round a good performance first-up.
