Bessborough 1st XI

Saturday, 10th May 2003 - League

North London V Bessborough Match Report: Saturday 10th May 2003 Venue: Shepherds Cot Written by: Patrick Mills Bessborough 131 all out North London 134-2 North London got their league campaign off to an impressive start on Saturday beating a much-depleted Bessborough side by eight wickets. After winning the toss their opening attack set about dismantling the top order with maximum efficiency. Tom Amedee ripped into the oppositions main batting, picking up three quick wickets and finishing with well earned figures of 4-28. Tom Wakeford bowled a tight offside line and was unlucky not to finish with better than 2-68. The elder Wakeford brother, Ben, mixed it up in the middle of the innings grabbing 3-37. With a sharp run out in amongst the tumbling wickets North London will have been happy with their first half performance. If the bowling was impressive then the batting was nothing short of spectacular. The opening pair of Richard Swann and Ian Johns started off solidly reaching fifty without any trouble, before Swann really open up and started putting the ball to all parts. The 24 year old left-hander cut, drove and pulled excellently butchering 88 not out off nearly as many balls. Johns supported with a classy 31 and will be disappointed to have slid a top edge to gully with the scores almost level. Maroof Anwar managed to spoon his first ball to cover but there were no more wobbles as the Crouch End team cruised over the line. With Barnet in their sights next week North London will be looking forward to what could be a highly successful season
