North London 4XI versus Highgate 3XI 22 May 2004 Ferme Park
Derek Copsey (Captain) Bill Ward (Wicket Keeper) Brant Eustace Jake Emms Waddy Gedroyce Neil Perry Ken Tuiff Adam Warden Joe Wood Jack Crylls Mickey Leighton
On a bright sunny day, but with a chilly strong breeze, Highgate won the toss and after long deliberation decided to field. Jake Emms and Brant Eustace opened the batting for North London with Emms an early victim to the bowling of Howard for 0. Waddy Gedroyce joined Eustace at the crease and both set about building a solid base for North London. All was going well until a bad call from Gedroyce had Eustace run out for 11runs. Perhaps Waddys mind was trying to work out how he managed to face his first few overs without wearing his box! Neil Perry on a rare appearance for North London was next in and looked understandably rusty, but soon began to push the score along. Waddy was next man out, caught at point for 18 runs. Bill Ward joined Neil and played a constrained innings before being caught for 22 runs. With Neil Perry out, bowled for 30 and Ken Tuiff only just beginning to get his eye in, North London were 98 for 5 off 33 overs. Mickey Leighton, next in, didn't need to be told to move things along and set about some lose bowling. When he managed to get the strike Ken Tuiff matched Mickey and North London's score execrated. North London declared on 204 for 5 off 51 overs. Ken Tuiff 42 not out Mickey Leighton 66 not out.
Adam Warden in his first game since his knee op, opened the bowling partnered by Jack Crylls. Jack was struggling bowling up the hill and was not helped by the large hole dug by the foot of the slightest of Highgates bowlers. Mickey Leighton replaced Grylls. There next followed a bizarre run out with the Highgate opening partnership both at the same end starering daggers at each other. As it turned out the Highgate skipper made the right choice and walked. Mickey, as ever, was bowling a consistent line and length, but a calf strain put an end to his bowling, but not before taking a wicket, caught behind by Ward. Warden continued without success, Highgates number 3 was run out to a stunning bit of fielding by Bill Ward, discarding his gloves, chasing, picking up and throwing down the middle stump from 28 yards. Joe Wood replaced the injured Leighton and was unfortunate not to pick up a couple of wickets, both to sky high catches down at deep mid on. Ken Tuiff replaced Warden but as with Warden one or two balls in each over seemed right in the slot for the tall Highgate opener Cox. Grylls then bowled down the Hill for a five over spell which was of a good line and length. Copsey bowling up the hill for a short spell managed to break the 150 partnership with a catch at square leg to Jake Emms. But Highgate reached the total with an over to spare. Cox of Highgate 107 not out.
Warden 11 overs 56 runs 0 wickets Grylls 8 overs 41 runs 0 Leighton 7 overs 12 runs 1 wicket Tuiff 6 overs 37 runs 0 wickets Wood 6 overs 35 runs 0 wickets Copsey 5.3 overs 18 runs 1 wicket
