Barnet 1st XI
Saturday, 17th May 2003 - League
Barnet V North London
Barnet 125-7 40.2 overs.
Match abandoned due to rain.
North London started where they left off last week and if not for relentless rain would surely have picked up their second win, in as many games. On a docile but true Barnet wicket, winning the toss might have proved crucial, had the heavens not forced an early tea and subsequent cancellation. The home side were struggling on 125-7 and looked shell-shocked from what was an efficient session of bowling by the Crouch End team. Only opener Vadgama resisted weighing in with a risky 53. Having survived a number of half chances, including a spurious LBW descion, lofting a ball towards mid on proved one risk too many. His, well taken, demise signalled a change in gear for the fielding side, who three quick wickets later, were looking to wrap up the innings. Ben Wakeford lead the charge scooping 3-43 and was well supported by Rian De Villers (2-27). Tom Wakeford (2-31) bowled well for his wickets and although Tom Amedee didn’t feature in the scorebook ,on another day, might have bagged three or four. In shocking conditions North London stuck together handsomely and will look forward to next weeks local derby against Highgate.
