On a sunny day with a slight threat of rain, North London won the toss
and elected to field.
Martin Lewis on his debut for North London opened the bowling attack
accompanied by Jack Grylls. Martins pace was clearly a problem for both
of the Mill Hill openers, but it was Grylls who struck first with a
caught and bowled to dismiss the Mill Hill Village skipper. Grylls took
another wicket in his 5 over spell to a catch by Tuitt taking his tally
to 2. With Lewis tying down one end and in the process taking 3
wickets, Ken Tuitt replaced Grylls and also benefitted from Martins
bowling, taking 2 wickets in a 7 over spell. With 7 wickets down and
Mill Hill Village number 2 proving stubborn, Leighton and Gedroyc were
brought into the attack and efficiently cleaned up the remaining 3
wickets. Leighton taking 1 wicket Gedroyc 2.
A thoroughly clinical performance with all bowler contributing, good
wicket keeping, catches being held! and few runs being given away
cheaply. Mill Hill Village were 81 all out off 29.3 overs.
With our performance earlier in the season at the Village in mind, Jake
Emms and Brant Eustice opened the innings for North London. Brant an
early victim to a simple catch to square leg for 0. Emms was joined at
the crease by Gedroyc and both set about building a solid partnership.
Gedroyc seemed to have settled in but was bowled for 14. Emms, however,
was scoring freely, walking down the wicket to some average bowling.
Graham Pearse on his return to North London scored a solid 8 runs
before being caught off a top edge. Both Graham and Waddy's departures
were accompanied by some Aussie sledging, which in the light of the
Mill Hill Village performance was comical. Bill Ward came in at number
5 and was soon out for 4 runs. Jake Emms 49 not out wrapped up the game
for a North London 6 wicket victory.
