1st XI vs Harrow St Mary's

Sunday, 1st June 2003 - Sunday League

North London V Harrow St Mary's

Harrow St Mary's : 269 / 6

NLCC:                     175 / 9

NLCC again struggled to put out a team on Sunday so many thanks to Salman Ali, H Godfrey Wood and Jack Grylls for coming in at the last minute.  This was a team full of youngsters that performed with credit.  Robbie Tombs, Tom Noutch and Shakil Hassan all took a wicket while Jack Grylls picked up three wickets.  Youth needs to be mixed with experience though, and HSM's total of 269 / 6 was always going to be a big ask.  NLCC avoided a disgrace by reaching a total of 175 / 9, thanks to a great hundred from Robbie (Wayne) Tombs and supporting innings from H Godfrey Wood (15) and B Wakeford (17).  We need to get more adults playing on Sunday though as the under 14s can't drive, don't pay much, shouldn't be asked to carry an NLCC 1st XI side, and are put under too much pressure when batting/umpiring.  They all learnt a lot from this game, I'm sure, but they'll learn a lot more playing with more experienced players.  Could One's/Two's players please look to play at least two Sunday League games this season.  This rant should take nothing away from a spirited fielding performance and a fine maiden hundred from the Roonster.  Cheers, Ben.
